Be sensible in the Sun

Fun in the sun is what the Tropitone World is all about but let’s be sensible. The South African sun is dangerous and can do some serious damage to your skin if you go unprotected. 

Here are a few basic sun safety tips…

Safety First

• Apply your sunscreen liberally, even on bits that you’re not planning on flashing about.
• For best results, apply your sunscreen 30 minutes or more before commencing sun worshipping.
• Top-up your sunscreen through-out the day, especially after swimming. Get a gorgeous guy or gal roaming the beach to help you with those hard-to-reach areas.
• Avoid the intense midday sun (roughly between the hours of 11am and 3pm). If you must stay out to see and be seen, accessorize yourself with a sexy se-through kaftan, a snazzy t-shirt or the ultimate in trendy pool-side wear: the broad-brimmed straw hat.
• If you are porcelain-white and do nothing but burn, freckle and peel in your quest for the perfect bronze body, fake it, don’t bake it!  Stick to Tropitone Sunless Bronze instead of subjecting yourself to the real thing for a sexy tan in half the time. Nobody will know the difference!
   

How to Calculate your SPF

Before heading out to soak up those rays or stare down your arch rival on the sports field, do an SPF check and make sure you’re getting the sun protection your skin needs.  Use our simple formula to work out what factor you should be using:

1. First, estimate how long it takes your skin to go red in the sun without protection.
2. Multiple the answer by your chosen SPF.
3. The answer tells you roughly how many minutes of protection the chosen SPF factor will give you before you burn.
4. For example: it takes you 10 minutes to go red in the sun without sunscreen on and you want to use an SPF 15 sunscreen; 10 x 15 = 150 (which represents minutes) so you can stay in the sun without burning for approximately 2hr 30min.
