Leigh reviews i-lipo in Cape Town

One of the biggest perks of being a beauty blogger is being given a lot of free shizz. Most of the time it’s awesome beauty goodies which is kinda like my crack, but every now and again you get the odd offer out of left-field… a little somethin’ something’ like… (dun, dun, dun…) laser  lipo! Sjoe! Naturally, my first instinct was ‘er… I think I might pass on that…’, but, having seen the most awesome demo, I’m now totally sold on the whole concept. In fact, should I ever find myself sitting with a post-baby muffin top that just won’t respond to killer cardio, I’m sooo gonna hit up the laser (and then lie to everyone about my awesome new personal trainer…)
Anyway, let me fill you in on what it’s all about…  According to i-lipo laser clinic (near Heritage Square in Cape Town), it’s the ‘intelligent alternative to liposuction’.

The Low Slung Bun

This neat, but modern shape is pure elegance, and works beautifully with smoky eyes for evening drama, or pared down for a chic daytime look.
To achieve this look you need:
  • Hair Band to suit your hair colour
  • Trevor Sorbie Beautifully Straightened Protect, Flatten and Shine Spray R89.99
  • Large Sectioning Clips
  • Bobby Pins to suit your hair colour
  • Trevor Sorbie Beautifully Moisturised Moisture Barrier Hairspray R89.99

Blow dry your hair smooth by spraying Beautifully Straightened Protect, Flatten and Shine Spray through the lengths. Part your hair in to a sleek side parting and separate the section, clipping it away. Brush the back section into a low ponytail, and secure with a hair band.

Twist the pony tail.

Coil it back around itself to form a bun shape, pinning securely with bobby pins.

Take the separated side section and sweep it around the bun, securing it in place with bobby pins. Keep the front fluid but neat. Spray with beautifully Moisturised Moisture Barrier hairpsray to give strong hold, without weighting it down.

Trevor Sorbie products are exclusive to Dis-chem nationwide

It may look pretty, but the unmistakable odour of nail polish betrays a cocktail of toxic ingredients.

That shiny red colour flaunting all of its shiny glory on your painted nails might add a flash of style to your fingers, but it's wreaking havoc on the environment -- and your health.

You're no eco-dummy. You don't need to do a lick of research to know that a product that comes in every hue of the rainbow -- and then some -- is anything but natural. What makes that glossy nail polish so eye-catching, shiny and able to stick to your nails for days? A slew of chemicals, of course. We know you're pretty eco-savvy, but do you know just how much bad stuff that one teeny nail polish bottle holds?

See what Abbey from One Stiletto at a time has to say about Essence
I have used Essence's nail polishes and eyeshadows before but in my Catrice launch hamper there were a few products from an Essence line I did not know about, the MySkin range.
I have to remove my makeup before bed, always have even when I am feeling beyond lazy so sometimes cleansing wipes are just the answer but my skin always feels a bit oily after using most of the wipes on the market. I decided to try these mostly because they smell incredibly divine, the fragrance is bamboo and pomegranate so imagine fresh and fruity. They really do work to remove all traces of makeup, base, eyeshadow, mascara and left my skin feeling moisturised but not oily at all. I then swore to keep a pack of these with me when traveling, imagine my surprise when I found out they are only R19,95!!! For 25 wipes that is insanely cheap.

See What Glamour says about Ofra

Even though the dreaded “W” is upon us, there are still a few hours in a few days left where we can still get away with bearing our, um, bare legs. If, like me, you would rather die from heat stroke than expose your lilly whites in public, then you’re going to love Ofra Comsetics Red Carpet Kolour Body Glow (R565.)

Not only does it deliver a gorgeous natural-looking tan immediately, it dries relatively quickly (5 mins), and does not rub off on clothes! And in case you want to go back to your natural state, it also washes off in the shower.

But the best part about it is (yes, there is another part) that it hides imperfections - we’re talking about bruises, veins and stretch marks. Sound too good to be true? We thought so too! But with the likes of Ellen Pompeo, Jessica Simpson, Christina Appelgate and Denise Richards being huge

Your Brain has been REWIRED

Many people who undergo a traumatic event believe they can handle the problem themselves. Not to be the bearer of bad tidings, but if this works, it's less often because of what the person did than how our brains normally work. Conversely, if it fails, it's important to realize WHY it didn't work. And the simple fact is, it has nothing to do with how strong your will is or how competent you are. What we'd like you to understand is that trauma physically rewires your brain! Your brain actually changes in that certain parts get bigger, certain parts shrink and new neural pathways are established. This effects your thoughs. Think of your thoughts as a river. Now imagine that area has a massive earthquake. The shift in the terrain reroutes the river! THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WITH PTSD!!! This happens to pretty much everyone who undergoes traumas in their lives. Now, normally and over time the river will return to some semblance of its original course. This return can happen with or without therapy. It is a natural part of our healing process. While the river's course will never be the same, it does return to something close to where it originally ran. PTSD, however, creates a slightly different problem. The analogy we like to use will make sense if you've ever spent any time in the desert. gullies and washes are commonly found in this environment.  All that water has no place to go, but rushing down that gully. That is what your thoughts are like under the effects of PTSD. It doesn't matter how strong you think you should be, like the water, your thoughts get ripped down this pathway. And like someone caught in a flash flood, you are pulled along helpless to control the effect. Your brain and neural pathways have become those arroyos. The reason we use this analogy is to point out that the time to deal with PTSD is not during the middle of a flash flood. it's when it isn't raining. It is to seek outside assistance to help you fill in those gullies and change where the water goes during those times that it isn't raining up the wash or the flash flood is raging. The problem with having your brain rewired is that you can't run a self-diagnosis very well. And that is why you need to seek experienced professional help. PTSD is a well known problem, you aren't alone, nor do you have to handle it yourself. Because believe us, you don't want your PTSD rewired brain running the rest of your life.

Read what Leigh has to say about Catrice and Essence

By now I’m sure most of you of aware of Essence, the German cosmetics brand exclusive to Clicks. Thing is, you might not have met her slightly more sophisticated ‘older sister’, CATRICE, who’s exclusive to Dis-Chem.

Catrice’s new Las Vegas collection.

Much like Essence, CATRICE also offers quality cosmetics at prices that won’t hurt your wallet. CATRICE, however, is incredibly trend driven; so much so that every six months, 25% of their products get updated to ensure the brand always has something new and exciting for you to buy. Boy or Girl?

IntelliGender's Gender Prediction Test™ is a simple urine analysis similar to the pregnancy test you took a few weeks ago.  It uses first morning urine and a proprietary mix of chemicals which reacts with a combination of hormones to indicate the gender of your baby.  It can be performed as early as 10 weeks of pregnancy (six weeks from the first day of the missed period). It is an easy test to perform and provides quick results in-home so the news can be shared right away.
IntelliGender reminds all pregnant moms that seeing an obstetrician early in the pregnancy is critical for the health of the mother and the baby and should follow the advice of their physician.
You simply collect first morning urine and insert into the test vessel.  Swirl rapidly in a circular motion, place the test on a flat white surface undisturbed for minutes.

Teething pains

Teething is a painful time for babies and it is a frustrating time for parents too,  but knowing what to expect can make teething a little less painful for both.
As babies start to teeth they start to drool a little more and also like to chew on things. Sometimes the teething process is not painful for babies but generally some discomfort is felt. Some babies may have stages of irritability and for some babies these stages can lasts for weeks. Expect more crying and interrupted sleeping & eating patterns. Swollen and tender gums could also occur along with slightly raised temperatures. However if you are in doubt about the symptoms you should contact your doctor.
For some relief try TeetheEaze Gel

See What Ruby Box has to say about Tip Top Nails

Tip Top Nail Chic Review

Tip Top Nail Chic in Space Cadet

Whether you’re into a sexy fire engine red or a classic French mani, you can’t deny that beautifully painted nails make a major difference to any outfit. Besides for adding a bit of fun (nail colour is the ultimate accessory), it also gives you an overall look of being well-groomed and polished (excuse the pun!). As much as I love painted nails, I don’t do mine as often as I’d like to. I usually blame it on lack of time, so I’ve recently decided to make the time and paint them while watching the news or chatting on the phone (set to ‘speaker’ of course!).
I’ve always been very strict on what type of polishes I buy- no matter how gorgeous the shade or texture, I never compromise on quality, as I know it’ll cost me loads of time fixing chipped colour. Our beauty editor at rubybox has been raving about Tip Top Nail Chic ever since I met her, so I’ve always been keen to try it out, and when it was featured in one of our May rubyboxes, I jumped at the chance.
I tried Space Cadet, a navy blue shade with a hint of sparkle, which I thought would be great with the greys and blacks I’ve been wearing since winter approached. I applied two coats of colour (plus a clear base and top coat), and was left with a beautiful deep, glittery shade of blue. The colour passed my seven day test and only starting chipping after a full week, making it the perfect product to apply on a Sunday evening for the working week ahead. Plus the application was quick and easy thanks to the large flat brush.
Besides for the long-lasting quality and wide range of shades available, I love that this product is animal-friendly and free of nasty chemicals like toluene, formaldehyde and camphor. Now that I know and love the brand I can’t wait to try out some of the other colours available – there’s over 50 to choose from!
Tip Top Nail Chic is available at Clicks stores nationwide.

NEW and not yet on the shelves

New from Kiss Nails - Kiss Nail Wrap - Fashion that Sticks

I got these nails yesterday from Kiss and I must say that I am impressed!

It was so easy, all you have to do is peel the sticker off the backing and apply to your nail. Having never done this before it took me a minute or two at first but once I got the swing of it, it was easy peasy.

There are a total of 18 strips so you can easily find the right size and you literally peel it back and stick it to your nails and then file off the excess sticker.  It is also easy to peel off if you have positioned it incorrectly.

I got so many compliments yesterday about my nails that I can't wait to try out the other variations. I am going to keep these on for as long as possible (pink is my favourite colour). The packaging says that they last up to 10 days, I am a bit rough on my hands, horse riding and swimming, so mine may not last that long but will let you know.

Kiss Nail Wraps will soon be available at Dis-Chem so keep a look out girls.

Swaddle that Babe

Puckababy – the concept of swaddling is centuries old, but with a new design it is the latest re-innovation in the baby goods industry.

Swaddling is the art of snugly wrapping a baby in a blanket for warmth and security.  It can keep your baby from being disturbed by their own startle reflex, and it can help them stay warm and toasty all night long.  It has also been known to calm a crying baby.

Many sleep, crying and feeding problems are caused by too many distractions. The cradle is too big, there is too much space and too many outside influences throughout the day. The Puckababy teaches babies to recognize when to sleep peacefully and long by associating sleep with being swaddled in the sleeping bag.

Secure, safe and soft, made for a well deserved rest.

The Puckababy is a contemporary and safe alternative for wrapping babies. Because it is very user friendly and soft materials are being used, all the risks of old fashioned wrapping are taken away.  Pediatricians, children's physiotherapists, osteopaths, lactation, maternity care, hospitals and other professionals recommend Puckababy because it gives babies peaceful sleep which is vital for their growth. Also childcare, crèches and nursery schools have discovered Puckababy.

Puckababy has renewed the concept of swaddling. No complicated canvas work, but a soft and easy to handle sleeping bag with an inner vest are available in various beautiful designs for the different stages of your baby’s life:
